Carlos, known as Nitro, has been a beloved figure in Cabo for over 25 years. What began as frequent trips with friends for enjoyment and socializing evolved into a profound connection with the town, eventually leading him to call Cabo his home.

Carlos’s artistic journey started early, but it was not until his teenage years that his passion for tattooing truly ignited. Witnessing the art of tattooing and its ability to permanently transform the skin inspired him to dedicate his life to this craft. Then came Suzie, who set his path to what Baja Tattoo is today. Some say Suzie is the Good Ink in Nitro’s veins!

From Cabo Wabo to Baja Tattoo: Pioneering Excellence

Before establishing Baja Tattoo, Carlos operated a shop within the legendary Cabo Wabo alongside Jorge Viaña, one of its owners. Their collaboration, supported by Sammy Hagar, thrived for nearly two years. Despite the success, Carlos sought a space that better aligned with his vision for a tattoo experience—one that prioritized a clean, safe environment and exceptional artistry over the lively atmosphere of Cabo Wabo.

In 1997, Carlos realized his dream by opening Baja Tattoo at Plaza de los Mariachis in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. As the first and oldest tattoo shop in Cabo, Baja Tattoo has become a cornerstone of the local tattoo scene over the past 30 years. The studio has garnered numerous awards, built a loyal international clientele, and attracted renowned artists from around the globe.

Los Cabos Tattoo Festival: A Celebration of Global Talent

Baja Tattoo has also made a significant mark on the tattoo community by founding the Los Cabos Tattoo Festival, now celebrating its 5th year. This event draws talented artists from North and South America, as well as Europe, providing a platform for them to showcase their skills and engage in a vibrant exchange of artistic talent.

Nitro is eager to take on a new challenge by designing and completing a full-body tattoo piece. This ambitious project will enhance his extensive portfolio and showcase his continued dedication to the art of tattooing, helping to inspire a new generation.
